Return of Collections Policy
The Society's Collections have grown since 1830. The original charter and byelaws of the organisation included the acquisition of geographical materials to enable and develop knowledge and awareness of geography. Over the long history of the Society, items have been acquired for its Collections in a variety of ways, the vast majority by gift or donation. The Society鈥檚 policy on return reflects its commitment to the principles of fairness, collaboration and transparency as described in Arts Council England鈥檚 2022 guidance on Repatriation and Restitution.
